The ski videos are starting again

It's that time of year again. You're scrolling social media, not even looking for it, and there it is: somebody's first laps of the season. Mid October and the ski videos are back on the feed, which means it's really not that far off.
Some of you will be skiing next month. Not me. I'll be skiing around mid December, fingers crossed. Honestly, there's no telling what this winter is going to be like, and after last year I'm not making any predictions. Everybody has a take on the weather this year. I've decided to just take a deep breath and meditate.
In the meantime, though — if you're feeling the same itch, download Max Vert. It's my attempt to make a card game based on skiing. Someday it's going to be a real, physical card game you can deal across a table. The first version you can get is an app on your iPhone.
Here's the idea behind it. Skiing is about going after a metric. Me, I tend to chase vertical feet. I'm in the US, so yes, that's in imperial feet. I'm sorry. Not sorry enough to switch, but sorry.
Max Vert takes that number-chasing and makes it the whole game. You pick your runs, then decide line by line: bank the safe vertical, or send it and roll for double. It's the argument you have with yourself on every ski day, played at a table instead of on the hill.
Season's coming whether the forecast cooperates or not.
